An Upper Endoscopy (EGD) is a simple procedure that allows your doctor to look inside your upper digestive system. A thin flexible tube with a tiny camera on the end is gently guided through your mouth so the doctor can see your esophagus, stomach, and the duodenum.
The camera sends clear, enlarged images to a monitor helping the doctor check for irritation, inflammation, ulceration, or other changes. If needed, the doctor can take a very small tissue sample (biopsy) to help establish a diagnosis. The procedure is safe, quick and done under sedation with your comfort in mind.
